Everything you need to know about humidifiers

Warm Mist Humidifiers

Warm mist humidifiers (also called vaporizer or steam humidifiers) are one of the simplest varieties of humidifiers.  Electricity is used to power a metal wick, which heats the water and turns it into steam.

One of the advantages of warm mist humidifiers is that the air is usually safer and cleaner because the heat kills microorganisms and other impurities.  Also, there are medical inhalants (usually sold separately) that can be added to warm mist humidifiers which can ease cold symptoms, such as coughs.  And because warm mist humidifiers produce steam, they will cause a heating effect in the room they are in.

People with young children or pets will have to be cautious if they use a warm mist humidifier, because they can reach high temperatures and cause burns.  In addition, warm mist humidifiers are more expensive to run because of the electricity needed for heating.  Be sure to clean these types of humidifiers frequently.
