Everything you need to know about humidifiers

Cool Mist Humidifiers

A cool mist humidifier (also called a impeller humidifier) increases humidity by producing a cool mist.  The mist is formed by a rotating disc that shoots water onto something called a diffuser.

Cool mist humidifiers are useful in households with young children or pets, because there is no risk of burns, like in a warm mist humidifier.  Also, cool mist humidifiers will not warm the room they are in, which can be either good or bad.  They also use less electricity, so using a cool mist humidifier will save money in the long run.

If you choose to use a cool mist humidifier, be sure to clean it thoroughly and often.  They don't benefit from the sanitizing effect of steam, so bacteria, mold, and other impurities can form.  Follow the cleaning directions that come with the humidifier.
